Meet Michael!

Mike González is a Program Supervisor for the College to Career Program. After earning his bachelor’s degree in psychology, Monica Alcantar, Center Director in East Los Angeles and Glendale, introduced Mike to AbilityFirst, where he naturally gravitated to the services the College to Career program offers and began his career with AbilityFirst as an Education Coach. In 2020 Mike was promoted to Program Supervisor.

Mike is a 1st generation college graduate and will soon attain his master’s degree in sport psychology.

Both of his parents were born in Cali, Colombia – which is a coastal city in Colombia. To the world, Colombia is probably most known for its coffee, but to Mike, one of the best things that have come out of Colombia has been the food!

Mike’s favorite Colombian food is the Colombian Arepa, which is like a breakfast food made from corn flour. He enjoys his Arepas by cutting them in half, adding butter to the inside, and adding things such as bistec (thinly sliced beef steak) or eggs.

Growing up, the music his family listened to the most was Salsa and Merengue. Joe Arroyo was a usual go-to artist at family parties. A common tradition in his family is a “Novena” prayer, which consists of a 9-day prayer to Jesus, though Mike doesn’t really participate in the event.
