Weekend Getaway
Weekend Getaway sessions at Camp Paivika take place during the spring, and are open to the same camper groups as our Summer Program. The swimming pool is closed at this time. Outdoor activities vary depending on the weather and may include snow play.
Schedule and Fees, Respite Weekend
Outdoor Adventure*
In September, Camp Paivika staff and a small group of adult campers head out on a mid-week, off-site “Outdoor Adventure,” a four-day camp-out near a mountain lake or on the beach.
Group Ski Trip*
Adults with disabilities can experience the snowy slopes in Camp Paivika’s exciting Group Ski Trip, which is offered once during the winter months at a professional adaptive ski program located in Big Bear.
Group Ski Trip
*(Because the Outdoor Adventure and Group Ski Trip are not on Camp Paivika grounds, these activities are open to special needs campers who require minimal personal hygiene and medical care.)
Mom’s Retreat
Fresh air and beautiful surroundings, play and pampering, conversation, information and relaxation: Our weekend/two-day “Mom’s Retreat” at Camp Paivika is an uplifting, restorative respite for women who care for family members with disabilities, often at the expense of their own emotional and physical well-being.
Participants will enjoy gourmet food, live music, professional therapeutic massage, and instruction in deep relaxation techniques, yoga and tai chi. Creative crafts, star-gazing, a campfire gathering, guided forest walks and discussion groups will provide many opportunities for reflection and social networking among women who understand and share the challenges of daily caretaking.
Throughout the weekend, workshop presentations by experts will address issues that affect individuals with disabilities and will provide female caretakers with tools for stress-management and support.
This intimate weekend is uniquely designed to nurture women who are responsible for the daily care of special needs family members and to encourage and help them to set and meet personal goals for self-care.
