It’s that time again for the annual Santa Anita Derby Day 5K Run/Walk supporting AbilityFirst! Last year, thanks to your support, we were able to reach our goal raising $418,000 to support children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities. This year, we are aiming even higher and need your help.

The Derby Day 5K, presented by Comerica Bank, is more than just a race—it’s a race for inspiration. This much-anticipated and signature fundraising event for AbilityFirst is geared for the entire community, as we join forces to create a hope-filled and exciting atmosphere for those affected by a developmental and/or physical disability. With the number of those in need of special needs programs steadily increasing, now, more than ever, your participation and support inspires our team to go the distance, demonstrate strength and pride in our mission, and promote inclusiveness for those with special needs.

Like most, our participants do not run to win. The most important thing to them is to finish “their race”  with family and friends at this fun community event. Each person benefits from enjoying a healthier lifestyle, increasing confidence, and setting and meeting personal goals.

The 5K takes place on April 7, 2012 at the Santa Anita Park located at:

For the sixth consecutive year, we thank the Forest Lawn Foundation for their challenge grant which inspires the AbilityFirst 5K Team to go above and beyond.  Funds that AbilityFirst raises, over $350,000, will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Forest Lawn Foundation up to a maximum grant of $75,000.  We also thank our presenting sponsor, Comerica Bank, and the Santa Anita Racetrack for their dedication to helping children and adults with special needs.

Every day, participants in AbilityFirst programs run their own personal races. With your help, they will continue to strive and achieve new milestones.

Pre-event activities and registration start at 6:00 a.m. and the race starts at 8:15 a.m.  
Note: You must be present by 7:00 a.m. due to street closures.
